Redesign of the Spencers app to optimize customers shopping and rewards experiences by:

  • Studying reviews of the existing app and understanding customers frustrations.
  • Comparing the app to retail competitors such as Zumiez and Hot Topic to determine what incentives are given to customers to keep app installed.
  • Making notes of what features and design directions to take in order to make the app more functional and stylish.

User Frustrations and Problem Solving

The app introduced a convenient way for users to obtain Spencers' known punch deals that lead to free T-Shirts or Jewelry without relying on physical cards. However, it makes online shopping inconvenient and harder as users still have to use the web store.

  1. No way to shop through the app instead of being redirected to online store
  2. No clear information on obtaining deals and rewards. Instead users have to search the FAQ.
  3. Expiration dates for rewards are not clear upon purchase.

Spencers is known for its selection of intimate items such as lingerie wear, novelty adult toys, and body jewelry. Because these items have a broad selection with each item serving a specific purpose, it's important to allow the customer to know what they are shopping for and the process much more efficient.
